Who you'd be working with

An accountant, not just a bookkeeper.

I'm Alaina Killingsworth. I've spent eight years in accounting roles across consumer products, media, insurance, higher education, and nonprofits — closing books, reconciling accounts, managing payables and receivables, and preparing cash flow reporting for executive teams.

Most recently I've handled full-cycle AR and AP for a high-growth consumer brand: reconciling Shopify sales to processor payouts and bank deposits, managing approval workflows, chasing deductions and chargebacks, and preparing the weekly cash package the CEO and CFO actually make decisions from.

That's the part I care about most. Plenty of bookkeepers will categorize your transactions correctly. Fewer will tell you what the numbers mean for the decision in front of you — whether you can take on the hire, float the inventory order, or ride out a slow quarter.

Before you reach out

The questions I get asked most.

Do you file my taxes?

No. I keep your books accurate, reconciled, and closed each month so that your CPA or tax preparer has clean records to file from. If you don't have one, I'm glad to recommend people I trust. Good bookkeeping usually lowers what you pay your CPA, because they're not reconstructing a year of transactions in March.

What's the difference between a bookkeeper, an accountant, and a CPA?

A bookkeeper records and reconciles your day-to-day transactions. An accountant interprets those records, prepares statements, and advises on what they mean. A CPA is licensed to file taxes, represent you before the IRS, and sign audited financials.

I'm an accountant doing bookkeeping work, which means you get the daily accuracy plus someone who can explain what the numbers are telling you. For tax filing and audit opinions, you still need a CPA.

Do you run payroll?

I don't process payroll directly, but I record and reconcile it. I work best with businesses already using a payroll provider like Gusto, ADP, Justworks, Rippling, or QuickBooks Payroll. If you're running payroll manually or across multiple states, you'd be better served by a payroll specialist, and I'll say so upfront.

My books are a mess and I'm months behind. Is that a problem?

It's extremely common and it's fixable. Cleanup is quoted separately from monthly service, either hourly or as a flat project fee once I've seen how far back things go and how many accounts are involved. Nobody gets judged for a backlog — most people come to me because of one.

What size business do you work with?

Businesses with roughly 1–15 employees that use a third-party payroll provider. I have particular depth with e-commerce and multi-channel sellers, and experience across consumer products, media, professional services, and nonprofits.

If your business is larger, runs union or multi-state payroll, or needs complex manufacturing cost accounting, I'll tell you honestly that it's outside my lane rather than learn on your dime.

How much does this cost, really?

Monthly bookkeeping runs $450 to $2,500 depending on transaction volume, how many accounts and sales channels need reconciling, and how much accounts payable and receivable work is involved. You get a fixed quote in writing before anything starts, so the invoice never surprises you.

What software do I need to use?

QuickBooks Online for most businesses, NetSuite if you're already on it. If you're currently in spreadsheets, I'll get you set up properly as part of onboarding. I also work directly in Bill.com, Brex, Shopify, Stripe, and Amazon Seller Central.

How is my financial information kept secure?

I request read-only access wherever the platform allows it, so I can reconcile without the ability to move money. Credentials live in a password manager, never in email or text. Documents are exchanged through a shared encrypted folder rather than attachments.

How often will I hear from you?

Statements and a cash flow summary arrive monthly by the 15th, with a short note on anything that needs your attention. Beyond that, email me anytime — I answer within one business day. Scale clients get a standing monthly review call.

Are you local to Atlanta?

Yes, I'm based in Atlanta and happy to meet in person. The work itself is cloud-based, so I serve clients anywhere in the U.S. — most of my communication happens over email and scheduled calls regardless of where a client sits.
